Old and gray,
Open your mouth
And gently bray /

For want of a horse

The rider was lost,

For want of a rider

The battle was lost,

The kingdom was lost,

Of a horse shoe nail.

Fool, fool, April fool,
You learn nought /ничто/ by going to school!

Girls and boys, come out to play,
The moon doth shine as bright as day;
Leave your supper, and leave your sleep,
And come with your playfellows into the street.
Come with a whoop, come with a call,
Come with a good will or not at all.
Up the ladder and down the wall,
A halfpenny roll will serve us all.
You find milk, and I'll find flour,
And we'll have a pudding in half an hour.

Good Counsel /совет/ for Children

Go to bed late,

Stay very small;

Go to bed early,

Grow very tall.

One thing at a time

And that done well,

Is a very good rule,

As many can tell.

Good, better, best;

Never rest

Till "good" be "better",

And "better" "best".

The cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon;

The little dog laughed

To see such sport,

And the dish ran away with the spoon.

A лошади смеются.

How many days has my baby to play?

Saturday, Sunday, Monday,

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,

Saturday, Sunday, Monday.

Here am I,
Little Jumping Joan;
When nobody's with me
I'm all alone.

Here comes a poor woman from baby-land
With three small children in her hand:
One can brew /варить (пиво)/, the other can bake,
The other can make a pretty round cake.
One can sit in the garden and spin /
Another can make a fine bed for the king;
Pray ma'am, will you take one in?

Here's a poor widow from Bаbylon
With six poor children all alone;
One can bake, and one can brew,
One can shape /
строгать/, and One can sew /шить/,
One can bake a cake for the king;
Come choose you east,
Come choose you west,
Come choose the one
You love the best.

When the wind blows the cradle will rock;

And down will come baby, cradle and all.

Three score /два десятка/ miles and ten.

Hot cross buns!
Hot cross buns!
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot cross buns!
If your daughters do not like them
Give them to your sons;
But if you haven't any of these pretty little elves /
You cannot do better than eat them yourselves.
